Trust us to take care of your vision

We go the extra mile to meet our patients' needs

At Patrick & Menzies we care about our clients and take the time to examine every aspect of your vision and eye health. We will listen to any concerns you may have and promise to make sure our advice is easy to understand. We will always explain what we recommend and why.

Taking all the time that’s
needed to examine your eyes

At Patrick & Menzies we do things a bit differently from most opticians. We allow longer for our eye examinations, so your optometrist can spend as much time as is needed to assess all aspects of your vision and eye health.

Whether it’s a routine check-up or you have a specific concern or symptom that’s bothering you, taking more time means we can listen and make sure we understand any concerns you may have. It also allows us to give you a proper explanation of any changes, often using state of the art scanning equipment.

Even if you can see well, it’s important to get regular check-ups. Many medical conditions can be detected in an eye examination, and many are symptomless in their early stages.

Not all eye examinations end with a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. On many occasions we can reassure our clients that their vision is as it should be, while there may be times when we need to make a referral to a specialist, such as an ophthalmologist. However, we can often deal with problems that would have normally resulted in a referral to hospital.

Whatever your requirements, we will take the time to understand your needs and ensure you leave feeling listened to, fully informed and reassured your eyes are taken care of.

Frames

Frames to fit all tastes and styles

We offer a wide range of frames to ensure we have something to suit everyone, from designer ranges like Prada, Versace and Ray-Ban to bold plastic frames or elegant rimless options.

All our frames come with a minimum 12 months’ guarantee against manufacturing faults, and we are confident we can find you a pair that looks amazing for a price that fits your budget.

We also stock a variety of sunglasses, from popular brands including Maui Jim and Ray-Ban. All our sunglasses can be made to match your prescription, are properly UV filtered and will be fitted with as much care and attention as your regular glasses.

Making sure your frames are the perfect fit

Our dispensers are skilled in ensuring you get the very best from your choice of frames and can advise you on suitability, effectiveness and style.

Sometimes your prescription will have an impact on the type of frames you choose so we’ll talk through your lens requirements first before we look at frames. We can advise on the fit, comfort, longevity and suitability for your lenses, as well on style. Whether you want to find a statement look, a pair that’s barely there or something in-between, we can help.

The General Optical Council’s advice is it’s always best to buy your frames from your prescribing optician because a large part of how well a pair of glasses work is down to how well they fit.

Your glasses should be as unique as you are, so we make sure we are accurate with your measurements, and that we really understand what you need your glasses to do for you. We will always be on hand to resolve any issues, or even better, prevent them from happening in the first place!

As soon as your chosen frames are ready to collect, we will be in touch. When you come to pick them up, we will carry out any fine tuning on the fit and adjustment and check your vision is spot on. This is especially important if you’ve had a big change in prescription or are trying out a new type of lens for the first time – our customers tell us it really helps.

Lenses

Top quality spectacle lenses

Choosing frames that fit your style is just the first step towards creating the perfect pair of specs. Selecting the right lenses to suit your needs is the next task.

At Patrick & Menzies we mainly source our lenses from Nikon, a company at the cutting edge of lens design and manufacture. However, if you have a specific requirement, we regularly work with other lens suppliers, something which we can do as an independent optician. We’re confident that the lenses we choose are amongst the very best available.

All our lenses come with a scratch-resistant coating as standard and while this doesn’t make them bullet proof, it does mean that the lenses will last longer than they would otherwise.

There are a range of other coatings available too, from anti-reflective lenses which are great for people who spend a lot of time looking at a screen or driving at night to lenses which are water repellent, anti-static and fingerprint resistant! Just ask your dispensing optician for more information when picking your frames.

Ongoing support

Aftercare for your glasses

If your glasses should become uncomfortable or slip, we will be happy to adjust or refit them.

And, if the worst happens and your glasses break, don’t worry – we can more than likely mend them. Most repairs can be carried out on site, and if you bought your glasses from Patrick & Menzies, we won’t charge you for something straightforward like new screws or nose-pads.

If the problem is more serious, we can send your glasses to our repairers – and if they are beyond hope, we can order a new pair as soon as possible.

There are a few simple things you can do to look after your glasses such as making sure you clean them correctly, using the right solution and cloth provided and avoid pushing them on to the top of your head as this can bend the sides out of shape.

As well as helping to keep your glasses in top condition we can also offer advice on how to manage your ongoing eye health. For example, if you suffer from dry eyes there are a variety of different drops, eyelid cleansers and wipes which can help, and our team will be happy to advise which product would be the best for you. We can also provide supplements that have been shown to slow down, and in some cases stop the progression of macular degeneration.

Contact lenses

Expert advice on the right contact lenses for you

If you are a contact lens wearer it’s vital that the health of your eyes is monitored more closely than if you opt to wear glasses to correct your vision. At Patrick & Menzies we recommend a contact lens check at least every 12 months, and a regular eye examination every two years.

If your lenses are looked after properly, they are perfectly safe and can make a real difference to your look and your life.

As an independent optician we have the freedom to source contact lenses from any supplier whether that be major names such as Johnson & Johnson, Coopervision and Alcon, or smaller companies which can make more complex prescriptions and bespoke lenses.

Whether you prefer daily, monthly, two-weekly or even yearly replacements, our optometrists will advise on the best lens type for your eyes. This means your eyes stay healthy, you get the most comfortable solution, and the best vision possible.
